Has anyone a link to where I can get a daigram of the internal
gearbox... Im in Broome West Australia... Pretty remote... 1985,
4 speed, 3.5 Ltr.

It's an LT85 probably. I have little idea apart from the workshop manual
which may just be on the official Land Rover web site. Most documents are
available to download from there after you register and for a small fee but
don't know if they have digitised stuff from the 80's.

4 speed 'box - LT95

I either have (but cannot at the moment find) or can make something. It
might take a few days.

Is it a cross-section view that you want or an exploded parts book type
of view?

I'll assume that your e-mail address is valid unless you provide
something different.

Argh! A FOUR speed. Yes. Well no actually. Did they still make those after
1983? It's not some kind of Aussie special is it, with Isuzu engines or
similar?

I also wondered about the LT95 in 1983 but think that it lasted until
about 1985. Somebody will tell us. I'm hoping that we'll get more clues
from Oz.

Not a bad box from the DIY point of view but a heavy awkward lump.

In the UK it was fitted to very early 110's and so was the 2.25 diesel,
though not in the same vehicles obviously. You would be hard pressed to find
either these days as only a few were made. With the introduction of the 90V8
in late '84 the five speed Santana sourced gearbox was introduced and the
old four speeder discontinued.
It does take a while to export to Australia and it is not inconceivable that
it took 18 months to two years or more for a vehicle to find a customer
after being built.

I'd forgotten that was there. It may well meet Ray's needs.

The LT95 remained in Australia to late 1986 at least in the Isuzu engined
110s and much later in the similarly engined Perentie military Landrovers
in the LT95A form (ruggedised with taper roller bearings replacing some
ball bearings). So the one he is looking for diagrams of will be the LT95.


The five speed gearbox may have appeared earlier in the V8, and appeared by
the end of 1986 in the Isuzu engined variant where it is reputed not to
stand up very well, due to this engine's ability to provide high torque at
very low rpm, with resulting high impact loading when "lugged".

Thank you all very much for your help. We have now put it back together
and are putting it in today........35c and 94% humidity, a cool day for
here!!! Thanks again Ray
