Am after abit of advice, again, lol. I am looking at getting a better diagnostic tool for my discovery td5. I currently have an icarsoft diagnostic tool, but it only does the basic stuff. My question is, what’s the difference between nanacom and Hawkeye, besides price, and what’s the feature of them both?
 
The Hawkeye Total is the upgraded Hawkeye diagnostic tool that can diagnose a multitude of Land Rovers.
With the Nanocom you have to purchase unlock codes (and some cabling) for different Land Rover models and engines.

Having spoken to a new customer of a total, they have been told that the unit will not be supported anymore and you will not be able to get the dongles to allow the interface to some of the other vehicles fully.

So does the new version of Hawkeye still do the same as the old one, read faults, key programming, alarm issues etc? Did read something about cables for nanacom.

key programming is easier with a nanocom, as it can enter the short code. So you can use a 2nd hand key.

The original hawkeye (also sold with lr's T4 test book as an add on) was licensed to specific types of vehicle. A FL1 was different to a FL2 for eggsample. The later hawkeye pro came out in a newer shape case. The later hawkeye total came out in the same hawkeye pro case. The hawkeye total is unlocked for all supported models as standard. You can't buy license unlocking codes anymore.

There have been many romours of the products demise from sale. They did stop selling it but started again. They seem to have stopped again. The truth is the company making them were bought out many years ago. They continued to make them for many years after this. They seem to have stopped. The units cost more to make than the other newer products which don't rely on so much hardware. So it's inevitable they will disappear from sale due to low demand and manufacturing costs. Also cheaper copies available from china.

Dongles... It is true they have also stopped selling them. You only need the dongle to change the wiring on certain vehicles for certain modules, not all. Its a rewired interface so not difficult for us to make our own. We just need to know the connections when someone opens theirs up. And buy an odbii empty inline case.
 
Well it seems the dongles are once again available from Bearmach. I did post the wiring needed for the P38 EAS dongle since this is the one that people most often need.
I am pretty happy with my Hawkeye Pro. So far it has solved my issues on my P38 and read codes on my L322.

May I ask... Was your hawkeye pro (not total) unlocked for all vehicles it can support as standard or vehicle specific?
 
Yes it can and very well I might add.
