Hi everyone, I would appreciate some advise before taking my TD5 year 2000 Series 2 into the Landrover Workshop.
The fault is: when unlocking the car, the key slides neatly into the ignition barrel, but doesn't turn. My wife was stuck for ages before I could come out to the rescue. I tried everything (Checking was in park, wabbling stearing wheel, locking and unlocking etc) but without any luck. Then when just about to call RACQ, I decided to lock the car while inside, then stick the key in the ignition, which set off the alarm, then the key turned without any problem. This is now very consistent, and copying this procedure solves the problem.
Landrover seem to think it's a warn barrel, and a clean/service will fix the problem, they also said it was just coincidence that the alarm going off fixes the problem. However, I'm struggling to agree, as it is consistent.
Can anyone shed some light on this issue.
Thanks in advance. Brett
