inspired by a GWR poster I am thinking about doing a road trip from The Hafod Hotel in Devils Bridge in Mid Wales to Istanbul in my TD5 110 summer next year. Perhaps some gentle off roading near the start and a nice drive down through belgium, netherlands Germany czech rep, Austria Hungary, romania (or serbia) bulgaria and then Turkey. Camping/rough camping perhaps with a chance of some offroad on the way once I get planning a route. Thinking it would be good mutual support and make it more fun to have 3 to 5 vehicles going together, anyone interested???

You have probably been right outside my house at the top of Cwmystwyth as there is a well used green lane over the mountain with a ford at the top right opposite. Ever fancy a few lanes let me know as ive go most mapped and have driven a few (too many in a 20 mile radius to have driven them all)

How long do you think it would take? I have ridden to Holland via France and Belgium in around 12 hours on a Kawasaki :)
Are you thinking a couple of weeks or longer?

Yeah I did Eindoven in 13 hours incl the ferry earlier this month from the same start point in the Landie. Trip Works out 14 days if you do five hours driving a day. But think might do a bit longer driving on the boring bits motorway and the lowlands so that can get a couple of days break in Turkey before driving back. Its flexible at the moment and I can do more than 14 days but I know most others cant. If anyone else wants to go can work out route visits and stopovers together

What sort of cruising speed are you thinking of? Whilst my old girl will do 60, she is happier at 55!
2,111 miles each way equates to around 38 hours of driving per leg, so easily achievable in 14 days.
The wife is not keen so I would be on my own. Camping with the occasional hotel for a freshen up?
I am tempted as I have not been on a bike trip since 2011 :) and I have only just got a Landie!!

Yeah hadnt thought about that. Ive just rebuilt my TD5 engine so im whizzing around at 70mph but no problem with 55 as it would save fuel. Yeah re the hotels. Would still like to build in time for R&R in interesting places along the way like Budapest and in Istanbul. If you are interested we should swap contacts to start plotting

The wife just reminded me it's our 30th wedding anniversary next year, so I need to work out holiday etc and a cost before I commit. She is, as ever, the more practical one in our relationship :)
