Going on a long journey next week, and my fuel pump (the one bolted to the engine is leaking diesel. I am not even sure if it is is called a fuel pump. I either need one pronto, or need to fix the item that I have. Paddocks doesn,t sell them.

Any suggestions would be great, as I am in a real hole. The disco is a 300tdi 1996 model.

To make things more interesting I am in BAsel Switzerland, so the part needs to fly here.

Any advice would be wonderful.

I replaced mine a few days ago. Dead easy job, will take about an hour.

Full tutorial here: 300TDI lift pump change - LR4x4 - The Land Rover Forum

As well as a new pump you will need a new gasket, two olives and two nuts. You can salvage the nuts off the old pump but for a few pence you might as well get some spares. Olives cant be reused and you will need to be replaced. Again get one or two more than you need just in case you lose one in the engine bay and it falls somewhere totally inacccessible. - This will save a lot of lost time and fustration!

Where is the pump leaking from ? It it just just leaking from where the pipes connect, all it may take is tigtening of the connection using two 14mm spanners. Failing that, if you replace the nuts and olives with new you might solve your leak without buying a new pump. Of course if the leak is coming from the prime lever or any other part of the casing, then chances are you will need a new pump.

I bought my lift pump from ebay. I'm sure some sellers on there would ship to europe.

Great to get a foot up from a fellow Brummy. Originally from Kitts Green, been away a few years. I feel like such a pillock. That is the part. I was looking at the wrong item when the Swiss man pointed his crooked finger in the engine bay. Cheers.

Dom. Just brilliant. This is just what I needed. Champion. Thanks for taking the time and making the effort to lead my from ignorance to the yadda yadda...

I appreciate the help.

John

This Brummie left 25 years ago to have beer in Aus. Didnt return to Europe for 14 years, but always drove Landrovers down under. Live in Switzerland now, but will be Castle Brom for New Years.

Glad I could help. I've recieved enough help from others on this board. Its nice to be able to give something back to the community.

if you get one from paddocks just watch that it's the right way round
coz when i changed mine the inlet became the outlet and the engine would only run on tick over.
swapped the pipes the wrong way round and it ran fine
