I have recently bought a descovery 1990. 200 tdi With a seized up vacuum activated pivot (on the end of push rod arm)on the turbo' Before I try any brute force to free it, could anyone advise? Ihope it's not a case of a replacement unit. The vehicle has been standing for some months.

Are you sure it has seized? Is the turbo working ok, Ie a significant change in power around 2000rpm?

I asked the same question a few weeks ago about mine,

What I told you, The pivot shaft take about 30lbs ft to move so on such a little bar will feel Very tight. If the turbo works OK then all is fine :D

It is NOT OPERATED BY VACUUM!

It is operated by AIR PRESSURE.
Manifold pressure is fed to that capsule all the time.
At the pre-set upper limit of boost, the pressure in the manifold is enough to overcome the spring pressure, and so the diaphragm in the capsule shoves the rod and that swings the lever which opens the waste gate valve.

This slows the turbo down a bit, so if you keep the foot down it "balances" with the turbo producing maximum pre-set boost, usually about 1 BAR / 15 psi, enough pressure to blow up tyres.

OK?
