Ok.... username should be Halesowen(soontobe)landy.... but oh well...

I have been reading the forum for quite a while and thought I’d take the plunge into the member pond.

I have always wanted a defender and have now decided that my current car has given up the ghost to get one. Being completely honest, I’m very much a novice and having spoken with 'friends' who have told me what a daft idea and totally unpractical it is to get a defender... I'm looking to make new sensible friends....and get one!

Really confused by the defender pricing, (I know, I know that's why I’m a novice)!

But I only have about £3k-£4k to spend and I need one as a daily car, albeit I only drive 4 miles each.

So hopefully the more grey members may be able to point me in the right direction where to look or share some advice…

Cheers

James

For that money you should get a reasonable one. Often get them in the sales section on here. If you spot one in or around your budget you can ask on here. Someone may either know the vehicle or be prepared for beer money to take a look for or with you. You should be looking at 200tdi or 300tdi in ok condition.

There is a buying guide thread on here with tips.

Good luck. For a commute that far would be fine and enjoyable journey too.

Not as comfy as a car but if it's what you want go get it. At's run just like road tyre's on the tarmac. Can't think of any other issue's with the driving of a defender. If you like DIY mechanic's you're fine. If not then you may be getting a few members on here very ****ed. Welcome to the site :D
