Please could someone give me some ideas on a Defender V8 (3,5 SU crbs) problem:
Every now and then my Landy hesitates under heavy acceleration ,for a short while ,and then comes right again (feels like about 20% or so power loss.)
Have replaced HT cables ,spark plugs ,renewed needles and seats. Have an aftermarket ,electric fuel pump mounted under rear right wheel arch ,which has worked well for a few years . Could this be failing ?

Wouldn't have thought fuel pump as it should be supplying a constant pressure, give your carbs a clean as there could. E something in the float chamber that is trying to get sucked in

Try changing your points and condenser to an electronic contact less system, reading reviews on them for my 2.5 petrol and people report these solving problems similar to yours. A kit is £20-£30 on eBay so worth doing, a full electronic distributor is ~£70 but might be overkill. From what you describe it sounds to me like an ignition misfire, not so much a fuelling issue.

Thanks for the input ,all. Spent last evening studing manual and found that seal rings between carb suction chamber and carb body were missing(prevoius owner getting creative !). Had seal kit handy ,so replaced the seals and now the full brute force of the V8 is there and problem has gone away.
