Defender td5 not starting....

The ignition won't turn over, the car won't start when jump starting it with cables but it will start jump starting when being pulled. Is there a simple explanation? Also the side lights will come on but the main headlights will not.

I would say it needs mending,

You could start with a half decent description i.e. Dos the engine crank when you turn the key.
Is the battery flat?

If it does not crank/turn over, do you hear a click when you turn the ignition key?

It does not crank over or click, I think it is something to do with the electrics as I have discovered the main headlights don't come on when the lights lever is pushed fully forward but the sidelights will come on when pushed only halfway.
