Hi All,

Will keep this as sort and informative as i can. its not actually mine but was brought to me after it was stolen (with the keys) and found dumped 3 miles away as a non starter.

it is a 2001 defender TD5

It has been to 3 garages who have also failed to diagnose. The car WILL crank with no immobilizer faults. but it will no start.

What we have established:

Fuel Pressure 4 Bar
Good Fuel
Intake not blocked
Exhaust not blocked
New starter
New Battery
CPS good oscillation via oscilloscope to ecu
CPS good reading in diagnostics
All other sensors good readings
Good compression
Good timing
No codes logged in diag
All negs to ECU perfect 0ohm
neg out to ECU relay good
pos x 2 in to ECU good

NO injector pulses at all. Checked loom and as usual contaminated with oil and the ECU.

Replaced injector loom. replaced ECU and re coded. Still no start.

resistance checked injectors one at a time from ECU plug all to be found @ 1.5ohm where they shoudl be around 1ohm but factoring in DVM leads etc not too far out.

I have now removed the engine wiring loom and have washed and dried out also cut off all injector wiring and replacing. have not plugged back in yet.

Any suggestions at this point would be great. thanks guys.

No response is never good. Suggestions on a postcard maybe :)

Check inertia switch is set and the wiring isn't chafed to it as we have had similar before non start and no fault codes

Check for brittle wireds to ecu ( they do break and bad earths)

Thanks mate. inertia supply's pos to to ECM switch side relay which is spot on but thanks for input.

Injectors actually operating at all? any voltage registering at them at all while cranking?
Will obviously be a low reading due to it being a pulse but may read something, though sounds like these are not operating at all

Hi when i first got my TD5 it wouldnt start turned out to be acc pedal buggered and a wire needed replaced as it had a break in it going to ECM might be worth a check good luck.

Thanks guys. got the vehicle on a BSU and cranking at around 13V with no real volts drop. ACC position sensor checked at ECU and diag showing good sweep voltage. HELP :) thanks people

Defcrazy. Can you tell me more. Do you mean not preheating or dragging current? I have no injector pulse. Did you have this?

I've seen a few td5's not starts most have been something to do with the crank position sensor, the last 2 were started by towing them down the road ( for over a mile) and it burst into life.

they were not preheating and one of the wires had broken of the connector completely . fitted four new plugs and repaired the wire / connector and it worked fine . not sure if the injectors pulsing or not .

using my hawkeye i can manually test fire the injectors , are you able to do the same ? if not then its ECU or wiring , if yes ,then
