Defender TD5 fuel gauge false reading.

My defender TD5 is out of fuel but fuel gauge is still showing quarter of a tank, any ideas.

Could be wrong fuel pump? Pump for 90 and 110 have different senders.

Tank may be full of sludge stopping the float from dropping all the way down?

I have the same problem... since I changed the fuel pump - as DerekT said I was probably sold a 110 unit by mistake.
I keep and eye on my fuel consumption, and zero my odometer at every fill, so I know that by 360miles I have about 10 litres in the tank...
One day I will get around to removing the pump and bending the wire that holds the fuel gauge float - or should I say callibrate the sensor!

Thanks all.The pump is a tad on the noisy side, maybe I'll whip out the tank and pump and give it a clean up. Also does anyone know the best way to change the clutch as that job is looming on the horizon.

I favour taking the engine out but there's not much difference in terms of agro if you decide to remove the gearbox. Either way the are big heavy awkward lumps.

Maybe I'll get a price from someone, sounds a bit of a task. It's only slipping a bit when you give full beans. Just a bit worried as want to laning soon.
