My 2001 TD5 loses power and cuts out every 100 or so miles. If I sit for a minute it will restart and carry on as normal. This started happening after petrol was put into the engine (contaminated fuel pump at a local garage) and removed. Any ideas?

Hello Sprout,

Welcome to the looneyzone, Maybe a bit more info, it it always hot ? cold engine. How many miles since the fuel issue? chances it is a coincidence?

Jump over to the intro section and say hi.

Cheers

Might be worth changing the fuel filter and running a system purge.
How much petrol did you put in. Was it started and run with incorrect fuel. How did you find out, did it break down?

Yes it was 30L into an empty tank, driven for about thirty miles before it conked out. I'm thinking of replacing the injectors. What else should I do to make sure the fuel system is properly cleaned out and overhauled?

Next time it cuts out remove the fuel filler cap and see if it hisses, vent might be blocked and forming a vacuum in the tank, after it cuts out and left standing for a while may be allowing vacuum to slowly escape and allowing it to start again. Its worth a try, and try starting as soon as cap removed.
This happened to a mates car years ago.

I suppose you won't have any idea what proportion of petrol was in the diesel? It wasn't 100% petrol though?
