Hi, my defender 110 td5 hcpu has a bit of an isue with the clutch, when i put my foot down the pedal feels normal not spongy and with the corect biting point.
However if i put the landy in gear there is a slight shock trhu the driveline and the landy rols forward, and it is quite hard to engage gear.
Do you know what would be the problem?
Thanks in advance

Thanks for the reply a had not found the search function yet,the clutch fluid is quite dark, would i get away with just renewing the fluid and bleeding, or replace master and slave cylinder?
Thanks in advance

don't want to jinx things but had a similar problem couple of weeks ago, replaced the slave cylinder (cos it was leaking) then about 5 days later had your exact symptoms and now in the middle of putting a new clutch in. a couple of the springs in the plate had shat themselves.

good luck!

Thanks for the reply, what would be easier gearbox out or engine out if i would have to replace the clutch?
I have already done a clutch replacement on a 200tdi and that was quite simple, is it any more difucult on a td5?

Hey i had a similar problem a year ago and after a crazy quote for a new clutch etc I thought I would have a proper gander at the problem.
I'm not sure if its obvious or telling someone how to suck eggs, if so i'm sorry. but the top or the pedal arm where it is acting on the masters threaded piston rod there are some nuts to lock everything in the right position for actuation from the pedal. The nuts on mine had vibrated loose and altered its settings, Causing problems getting into gear etc i had to start it in gear to move the thing.
Not sure if it helps but it takes 5 min and saved me a poo load of money. I told the garage about it and the mechanic was quite embarrassed.

Sounds ike a similar problem I'm having with mine. Someimesstruggles to go into gear, especially when stopped for example driving around stop or at lights, then its a struggle to sometimes get it out of gear and into gear, without force, then its fine... do you think this could be the problem with mine?

If you decide to change the clutch be sure to check the input shaft on gearbox for excessive play, I had one once that clucked going into gear

Hi all, i had the same problem when i changed my master clutch cylinder 3 months ago, i adjusted the biting point as RCA says, now it goes straight in gear try it before getting a new clutch lol.
