Defender sunroof seal change

How do you replace the sunroof seal on a defender? Can you do it totally from inside?

I ask as i have a roll cage and access to the sunroof from the outside is tricky.

IIRC yes. The velvety inside cover pulls out of the aluminium frame to reveal the fixing screws. You'll need to take everything off and give the roof edge a good clean as algae and wot not would have grown underneath the seal and fixings.

Thanks although it looks like the seals are impossible to get hold of. Think I’m just going to silicone the bastard shut

Wait until you take it off and clean it up. As I said before it collects a lot of crap, once everything is cleaned it might be ok. I reused mine and it's not leaking. 22yrs old

Did you put any form of gasket on when you rebuilt it?

Always smear mine wi Vasolene, then I I apply some to the sunroof seal. keeps it supple like.

Good advice. It pours water and I never use it, the roll cage means it only opens a fraction.

No, just cleaned all the original parts and put them back together.
