Hi All,

Well it's taken 12 months at least, but swmbo has finally relented and says I can start shopping for a 110. :)

I used to have a K reg 200tdi 110, so I'm used to the feel of that engine, and the 29.7mpg it used to give me.

I'm noticing that a lot of 110's in my price range (about £2k) either seem to have 2.5TD (even though they're the same age as my old one) or a 200tdi conversion using a disco engine and gear box.

So, my question for you knowledgeable folks is: Is there anything majorly different about these 2 other engine options? will they both still give me the same fuel economy? both as reliable as my old 200tdi?

Thanks very much

FS

the disco 200tdi is pretty much exactly the same, once its fitted well you shouldn't know the difference, iv no experience but i hear the later ones are more reliabe than when it first came out and was suceptible to Head Gasket problems

thanks, that's good to know. I've done a bit of reading on the 2.5TD from what I can find - but there's not a lot about economy... I guess that tells me I'm looking for a genuine 200tdi or a 200tdi convertion.

:)

My 2.5TD gave me apprx 22MPG on the motorway back from picking her up and was struggling on some of the low hills along the M5. Around town she does alot less, i've put £55 quid in her since coming back and done about 200 miles using more fuel....quick maths using the trusty fuel gauge ( ) i'm doing about 18MPG for running around town for work ( i did 13 trips of 10 miles at the weekend alone with her loaded included )

The only real bug bear i have is the lack of 3 1/2 gear, ie it doesn't have one!
The difference between 3rd & 4th is monumental when you hit a hill of some kind, other than that there is plenty of push in the engine for normal driving and i would imagine a Disco box is better suited between 3rd & 4th, but i've never used one myself.

My 2.5TD does 11L/100km fuel economy. It needs some engine work as alot of fuel is going unburnt...The pistons & rings need to be replaced.

Disco LT77 has the same ratios as the 90/110 LT77 - only difference is the Disco transferbox has a higher overall ratio for high-range gears.
