Best of luck, get some lube on it and try moving the lever around, it should free up, sometimes the pin can cause issues, a bent nail can be effective.
And when you have removed the screws and sorted the linkage, it might be better to get some rubber mats in the footwells, the carpet has probably caused the screws to rust, by holding water around them.
Thanks, I was exaggerating with the soggy carpets, I have rubber mats and all is dry (at least at the moment). The lever moves just fine, it is just still that screw on the transfer box which may still be in the way.....

How about insideout 4x4 near Dorking? Any experience? Thanks .

Do you have a picture of the screw which is in the way? I am struggling to work out what part you are talking about that it could catch on.

I am wondering if the clip on the linkage is fouling one of the bolts on the transfer case. The clips are tricky, and people often put them on wrong, or replace them with other things.

As you say, pics would be helpful.

Watch the above from about 3:00 mins onwards and you will see the lever moving on the left and the screw in the middle, which the lever touches.
I have tried to explain making a picture - see attached.
Sorry, horrible quality video, I was filming from the driver seat, i.e. from above with a cheap little endoscope on my phone....
Thanks a lot.

Tried watching the video, as you say, the quality is not great, but it is just about possible to make out what is going on.
To me, it looks like the linkage is passing over the screw, although it may be contacting it slightly, and moving as it should.
Hopefully someone else will watch it shortly, and give another opinion on that.

Having looked that the video it looks like @Turboman is correct. And it is the linkage catching. The n-shaped price of linkage is not symmetrical, one of the legs is longer than the other. So it would be worth checking it has been fitted the correct way around. The long leg should be through the leaver and the short leg should be through the gearbox.
It may be worth checking the bolt is tight and therefore as far in as it will go. But I doubt this is the problem.
It is also possible for the split pin holding the n-shaped piece of linkage to catch on things if not fitted carefully.
If you lay on your back under the vehicle with your head up by the front prop It is just possible to see this linkage from underneath. Doing this may give you a better idea of what is catching as you would Be able to see the bottom of it while someone inside move the gear leaver.

Thanks a lot, that is helpful - though given the state of severely rusted screws for the tunnel cover, I may have to bite the bullet and get someone professional sort things out.... :-(
Cheers
Kurt
