Remove screws from the trim that holds the glass in.
Cut through gunky sticky stuff with a sharp knife.
Run to the house for a plaster.
Ease glass out gently being careful not to dro. ....

Use a heatgun to gently warm the gunk before cutting youself, er it. The screws may be difficult to remove. I find it helps to give them a sharp tap with a small hammer first, and make sure the screwdriver fits really well.

Screws? There aint no screws except those that hold the high level brake light in. It's the post 2002 TD5 rear im on about
