Defender radios are rubbish..so what to do

The standard defender radio in my 2010 tdci is next to useless....I know that's not a surprise....just thought I would ask....are there any tricks to improving the standard....if not...what digital kit has been fitted by the landyzone community that allows some form of in car entertainment as humming along to my goodrich mud terrains is getting dull!

With the level of physical security matching the radio it's a brave man who puts anything flash in the dashboard.
