Hi all,

I'm currently having a bit of a dilema...!

I have a Defender 90 CSW (Larry III) which I have spent 2 years improving/changing and now have it just the way I want it. It looks quite understated (I think) but I've spent thousands on it and it's now pretty much as comfy, quick and sound as possible.

The other halfs cousin told me a couple of days ago that he's taking delivery of an Evoque next month for the mrs and that means that the school running Disco 3 has got to go...

It's a spotless 54 plate, fully loaded HSE with only 35k miles and FSH. He wants £14500 to get rid of it...

We recently took part in the H4H European rally in the Def and it didn't miss a beat. On the rally were a few D3's and D4's and I have to admit, it did seem that they had the best of both worlds. They are obviously super-comfy and spacious etc, but also more than capable when the tarmac runs out...

We're going up next weekend to have a look and I have to admit I'm very tempted...
It would mean that I'd have to say goodbye to the 90, which will be hard, but it also seems that this may be too good a deal to ignore..?

What should i do troops..?
I know about a few of the running repair/issues that the D3's can suffer from, namely Bushes, belts and handbrake etc, but if all these are up to speed what do you think..?

I'd be grateful of any constuctive advice/opinion to help me make a decision.

Thanks in advance,

I had a Disco 3 and it was the best vehicle I ever owned. Nothing and I mean nothing ever went wrong with it in the 3 years I owned it. Downside is that it is the top rate of Road Tax. It's comfortable, roomy, looks brilliant and if I were you I would snap his hand off. (Put the Reg number through We Buy Any Car .Com to give you an idea of its value).

£14500 for a 54 plate is very expensive even a low milage school runner it's worth no more than £11000

Fraze, Sorry to state the obvious..........BUT.....Owning a vehicle is a very personal issue and depends on what you use it for. A defender 90 is unquestionably the best all round offroader you can get, but as an everyday family car....its a matter of choice. All that hard work and expense, now you want to sell it? They do hold their value though.. A D3 is Nice Family Car which will cater for most normal needs...if you dont go green laning on a regular basis or want to enter the occasional trial. In my opinion its too nice for the challenging lanes but fine for the odd non damaging run in the hills.
You must decide what is best suited to your requirements.
