Defender options

Good morning all,

First I want to avoid any offence by apologizing should this be in the wrong area. However, there is a chance soon of obtaining a 110 from my place of work this will be a low milage 300tdi utility (van sides) that was used to showcase my trades abilities ( can't give much away so please don't ask)
I would stress this is all above board. Should the correct deals be done.

I however am met with the following dilemmas.

I have always wanted a V8 defender. Ideally a 130. Is there a market out there to potentially swap defenders (appreciating that values may be different)

Or, should I set out on the build of my life to change the above mentioned 110 to suit my desires. (Not even contemplating making it into a 130.)

Prior to getting my hopes up I would like to just test the oppinion of the mas experience. Could a semi decent 130 crew cab be swapped for a 110? Trying to avoid a huge extra expenditure

What sort of use's are you thinking of for your Landy? 130's are a great working vehicle but not so good when it comes to parking up in town ect.

You could look for a 1980s 127 with a V8 already fitted. However it will be a 3.5 carb, but you could swap that out for a 3.9 efi. Or buy any 127/130, and do an engine swap. But the 110 300tdi, would be highly sought after. Hell, I want one. But my 200tdi 90 needs to much work to swap for a 300tdi 110, even if it has been converted to county spec.

So a 300tdi is a strong bargaining chip? The last landy I purchased was in 2007 so fingers are slightly off the pulse when it comes to real world cost.

It depends on the condition. Any Defender is a good bargaining chip if in nice condition.

Yeah really it's all down to chassis and bulkhead condition.

An old 3.5 on carbs will be just as slow as a 300tdi

less torque as a result of detuning but it'll do 8-10mpg instead of the 20+ the 300 can do.

Waste of time in regards to engine choice.

However i've always wanted a 130.

I would be using the Landy as a weekend toy. So power and daily usability is not really a factor. Just love the sound of the V8 I will just have to wait untill I take collection I think. Then put it up on here.
