hi all

i really like the defender but i need a economical car as i do lots of miles.

what sort of mpg on a tdi will i get, and will it do lots of motorway miles not too bothered about comfort as i like the look of the 4x4

thanks
marc

p.s if the mpg is good enough does any body no of a good un for sale say 5k tops

If you're that worried about fuel economy, then a Defender is not the vehicle for you.
You should expect 25 to 30 mpg at best.

do yu actually mean mpg or "cost per mile" - coz they aint the same - some of the guys on here run a percentage of bio - which brings the cost down considerably.

do a search on biofuel - that mite help.

Running a land rover lots of miles is going to be expensive, its not only down to MPG you have to consider servicing , and the tyres are not cheap and still wear out even though they start off with a greater tread depth than the average car tyre.
If you run around in a land rover by preference , you probably have a incurable mental problem but have learned to live with it:D

If you want a landy which you can use off road and want reasonable MPG then defender probably isnt the best bet.

A Discovery will give you good off road ability and even though its the same engine as the defender you will get slightly better MPG (high range is higher in the disco).

But if you want one JUST for looks then refer to tacr2man's last sentance :D

That sums it up:D

It depends on your journeys as well, my 2.5dt is doing 28mpg and hubbys 300tdi(IIRC) is on 32mpg . Our journeys are generally free flowing 20milers to work .

My fuel budget went up by £100 a month when I sold my road car and bought my Landy:eek: Having said that my Landy has been the most reliable (especially as its 20 years old) practical and fun car I have owned.

So Im obviously incurable;)

and i'd bet you'd get nearer to 34mpg if you put a good few litres of vegoil in yer tank

thanks all for the replys

i am currently running a p38 range rover 4.6 but due to change of home the area where i live and work the range rover is going to cost me ££££'s 16 mpg petrol. 40 mile round trip

so i still want a land rover but i really like the looks of the defender but may not like the ride and the basic inside the cabin.

not interested in the freelander just dont like the thing

disco maybe but, the one i would want (the new one) i carnt afford so this gets back to the defender, which would be best 90 or 110 for the motorway journey

and if any defenders are for sale please let me know

my range will be for sale so if anybody wants a good cheap range please let me know

thanks for the help

marc
