Hi all

I'm a dad of two who is trying to squirrel away enough money to get a Defender. Apparently nappies are more important!

My mate's got one and likes to make me jealous. Sending this film to me didn't help either - it's an amazing film and has made me even more desperate to get a Defender. I'm sure plenty of you will love it too.

But it's not putting money in my bank or easing the wife's worries about reliability.

Any tips for winning her over?

Cheers

Welcome to LZ! :)

Personally, I think your wife is right. Win her over by getting a decent car.

Hi and welcome!

As a dad of one with another on the way, I can confidently say that if I hadn’t bought my Defender several years before my daughter was born, I wouldn’t be able to get one now. Having children means you rarely get any money for yourself, let alone saving for a Landy! My wife tolerates the Defender, But does occasionally eye it up as something of a luxury and a cash-cow. But good luck with the saving and let us know when you get one. We like pictures of new Landies!

If it helps, children absolutely love landies! My daughter spots them when we’re out and loves sitting in mine. It drives my wife mad!

Or he could get a car with a towball, and a little trailer sailer. Kings Lynn is a great port, and you have the tidal Ouse, the Wash, etc. right on your doorstep.
And with a boat, you can spend loads and loads of time away from your wife and kids at a low cost! :)

Boat’ reported

Even when you’re older, have money you have no time. I’ve just had 4 months off work and was promised the time to change out the steering box, timing belt, radiator etc. Instead I’ve been doing flat out DIY on the house. Now I’ve got some time free I have to fend off snide comments if I spend an hour trying to fix it up and we know a wiper blade can take three week on a defender :D

…so you see it ain’t just money :(

Houses eat even more time and money than Defenders.

Welcome:).

Yes some say they can be unreliable and not all Ladies like to drive them. I am lucky :)
Get a second car for her;).
We have in general found they are reliable but maintenance needs to be kept up.

Dont give up hope but as said you should have done it a few years ago, then it would have already been part of the family:D
