Hi all, I'm at the stage on my project 110 200tdi of finishing the front end off but I don't have the heat shield that goes round the turbo outlet pipe and the top of the exhaust. Having priced one up they're coming in at about £200 ouch. As its a genuine defender engine and the turbo is at the top of the engine I guess it would be better refitted to protect the bits that are close to it ? or would it be fine to leave it off ? or is there a cheaper alternative like exhaust heat wrap any help would be much appreciated especially if it saves mr 200 quid:D
cheers Ian

i don't have one on mine and its fine, bonnet doesn't get hot at all. I know a few people that run them without.

I have wrapped my downpipes in exhaust wrap

I took mine off about two years ago and been running it without any problems. I'm in the South of France where it can get hot in summer but no problems. Oh, and last year I did a trip to Morocco.
