For the past eight months or so, two of us have been travelling and living in our Defender Td5 CSW 110. Since we intend to do this for several years, the time has come to make it more comfortable and spacious. On wet, cold days and evenings, for example,we want to have somewhere to sit other than in the two seats, driver’s and passenger’s, and somewhere to cook other than outside. Thus we have two options: sell and buy a mobile home, or convert what we have. We have little idea as to what mobile homes cost, nor the cost of a fairly radical Land Rover conversion.
We came across AZALAI’s website, which is interesting, and wonder if anyone reading this has experience of them or knows someone who has, and could comment on the quality of their work, etc.etc. Another website showed the “Land Rover Explorer” a ‘mobile home’ Land Rover sold in the USA in the 1960’s (for $1,300). This is also the kind of thing we had in mind (I’ll try to attach a picture). Suggestions about other companies who undertake the kind of conversion we’re interested in all also very welcome.
Thanks.

Hi,
first post on here, more of a reader. If i were you then i would be inclined to have a removable/demountable body. How it works is you have a normal pick up and you reverse under a body and pick it up. This has a few benefits. You dont have it on the back all the time, which will cost a stupid amount in fuel and limit even more where you can take your Landrover. I've seen this style around on campsites(not on the back of Land Rovers though) and there was also an article about it in a Land Rover magazine a few years ago.
They are usually quite comfy with the bits in you need.
A quick google should find some results for you.
It would mean some modification for you with your CSW though.

i converted my 90 into one person camper

wasnt gerat but was servicable and i even lived in it for a couple of weeks on a campsite when i was working away from home

used to camp in works 110 when worked with an exibition company

one of the best bits of advice i got was from a lad featured in LRM a few years back who has lived in his one 110 8 mths of the year for past 12 years while working as a tour guide in africa
and it was

"list every thing you need to fit into the landy pile it all up then realise with all of that in the ****ing thing you wont fit in it
so decide whether you want to sleep in it or ontop of it
if its in it through away everything you dont need to survive and figure out how to store it under your bed "

kinda summed it up for me

You will need to do a search for defender camper roofs, I think the company was dormobile (or similar). Basically it's a new roof which is hinged at one side (similar to a camper van). When extended you can sleep up top and stand up in the back.

Have a troll through the expidition section, there is a link land rover camper - Photobucket Groups on there I don't know if the link of it I have done here will work.it's full of conversions plans that people have done to their landys.
I have just bought a 110 to turn into a weekender, not to live in, I used to have a vw auto sleeper, trident, which was fantastic, but I needed the 4x4 part as well
