defender bonnet wires?

im new to land rovers so this is a schoolboy question haha, iv seen a few defenders with wires from the front of the bonnet to the top of the windscreen, are these decorative or what purpose do they serve?

Lifting shrubbery out of the way, just a tad illegal on road which includes lanes.

How come they're illegal? Is there a chance of garotting cyclists or something like that?

Yes they're too dangerous for hitting pedestrians/cyclists. They're called bush wires btw, guess it comes from Australia.

Hmm... well they haven't banned buses or HGVs yet....and how dangerous are they when they hit someone?

I figured it'd be along the bubble-wrapping of society H&S lines. Thanks for the confirmation. :tea:
