defender 90 speddo not working

i have a 1991 defender 90 and the speedo not working just wondering if the speedo runs of the gearbox or where i can find it to check thanks

Connected to the transfer box if you have an LT230. Cable may have broke? You can check the speedo by using a power drill.

My guess he's testing it whilst stationary......

is a bit of a bitch to get to think its a 10mm spanner just behind the handbrake drum that holds it in. mines just stopped working so got to pull mine out but bigger probs than a speedo cable at the mo. its only a plastic connection so could be that that has snapped

If it's the LT77 box, pull the centre seat cover off and away you go! If it's a new cable to be fitted, tie the new one onto the 'box end of the broken one (once detached from drive) and pull through from the engine bay having checked for tiewraps on the chassis rail - then thread in to bulkhead/binnacle and carefully connect to speedo head
It's a fiddly job but worth persevering....
