Hi guys and girls im brand spanking new to all this landy stuff but got an offer i could not refuse 1984 Defender 90 with a few problems filthy cheap now im a very handy mechanic (or so i think) but know nothing about these little beasts so im here for a little bit of advise and hopefully some dirty fun

i only have one question for the moment and its a bit of a biggy

i have no drive unless its in diff lock now it sounds like its all enguaging and turning but no forwards or backward motion, now i have spotted something rather serious and that is that the o/s/f wheel looks like its got the bolts undone if that makes sense it looks like its hanging off but they are all tight and it has a massive amount of play top to bottom, the disk looks straight and i cant see any movment there, so my thoughts are that the inner shaft has snapped (hence no drive) and its hanging out ?

anyone experianced this and does it make sense can you all help

regards

danny

Deffo sounds like a snapped halfshaft. once one breaks all the drive will go to that unless the difflock is engaged. easiest job to do on a landie. You'll need a long magnetic pickup tool to get the broken bit out if it's still in there.

sounds like the cv joint is bollox'd mate
:welcome2: by the way
expect there will be some more guys along in a bit to give you more views hope ya got thick skin and a good sense of humour too;)

sounds like you need to strip down the hub assembly and remove the half shaft to see what is going on. Most likely a stripped half shaft or blown diff, but that wont explain a saggy hub assembly! maybe something wrong with the swivel housing? is the wheel sticking out of the arch more than the n/s one? photos often help :)

right o i will report with pics and **** when i get it stripped, glad it should be no biggy wanna go have some dirty wet fun (shame its a petrol) but its so ****ing cheap i couldnt say no

saying that i have put a pic on my profile thing you can see the tilt on it there

ok so i took it apart today and found that the o/s wheel bearing had collapsed and that the end of the cv had snapped, didnt go any further as got bored of trying to get the caliper of but im guessing once thats off with the hub its easy from there.....

Yep Calliper is easy to get orf it's only 2 multipoint bolts. don't use a 6 sided socket or spanner use a multipoint one and they'll come off no probs.
