did work ok, but just doesn't now. I have to turn the power isolator switch off to turn the lights off. dip and flash work as they should but the lights on off switch does nothing. is it a common problem? has the switch just failed when in the on position? help please,

The switches melt, but normally resulting in lights off, as the plastic melts, and the contact sinks into the plastic. Take the shroud off, and one nut to release the switch to have a look

As above, failing any resolution, disconnect the battery and resolve the issue when you can see (no pun intended)
