I have just bought a defender, but have found that i have no sidelights, front or rear. one headlight works, and both rears, so i assume that I need to replace a bulb for the missing headlight.

Where do I start with the sidelight problem- I cant believe that it is 4 blown bulbs!

cheers
Mark

Headlamp could be connectors in wing or bulb, sidelights may be the switch or a fuse:)
try bulbs first

welcome to the mysterious world of land rover electrics, a simple use of the search facility will reveal all or google lucas wiring smoke replacement kit

4 blown bulbs sounds pretty improbable . i would check the wirings as one might be disconnected . pretty annoying job i know.... download the workshop manual !!

this will help you , i hope so.. :)

thank you. i did look at the common faults forum, but i didn't see anything.

First thing you could do is to remove fuse and clean the contacts in the fuse box, they corrode and go dull making a bad contact, somtimes just spinning the fuse in its holder will sort it out:)
