Hi All,

I'm replacing my dipstick tube on my 1993 Defender 110 CSW as the current one detaches every time i pull out the dipstick. I got an MOT advisory so thought id replace it.

I have cleaned up the area around the screw fitting for the dipstick tube and have received my Britpart ERC8980 Dipstic Tube. When I try and screw the tube fully home I am left with a gap f several millimeters between the engine block and teh collar off the Dipstick retaining nut. There was no gasket/oring that came with the tube as i suspect this would melt given engine temps.

Is it normal for the tube not to screw fully home or should i just up the power on cranking it in with my spanner?

it tightens against an olive.

check your old tube- is there an olive on it .... if not its possible your over tightening of the old one has pushed off the tube and is still in the hole.

thus you now have 2 olives in there......

Thanks. The old olive came out with the old tube. it was sliding off though. I flared the tube and it stays on fine now. I spoke to a landie shop and they said it doesn't screw down flush. Just screw it till its tight and then check for leeks after I've driven around a bit

yep wwell if the olives out it will just be the fact that your new olive on your new pipe is higher than the old one..... so long as the olive is under compression she'll be sealin

itll be grand.

Done and dusted. I was just concerned it didn't tamp right down. It's been in over a week now and no leaks. Looks like the jibs a good un.
