You're describing two distinctly different faults

    1. sort out electricals first
    2. if your fuel system has diesel bug you need to remove/spotlessly clean/replace all fuel lines, filters, filter housings, FiP et al. If not, it'll be back in no time. Re' the tank, you'll need to empty and remove to complete a proper flushing/sterilisation before refitting. If tank is old and crusty throw it away and buy a new one, they're not expensive...otherwise you'll spend hours/days cleaning and repainting tank only to buy a new tank in the near future.

There's a good review on bug killer additives here https://www.pbo.co.uk/gear/12-diesel-bug-treatments-tested-43353

As above ref the diesel bug, although the TD5 has a plastic tank, so you should be able to salvage it. The engine could have stopped due to lack of fuel, but there may be other possible causes. I would get the codes read by a suitable (non OBDII) TD5-compatible diagnostic tool as you may have another fault such as a faulty crank position sensor.

    Thanks guys.
I will get back to you when I have a checked the fuel pressure regulator, Would it be good to put some pressure at the high pressure hose at the fpr to clear the fuel lines ?

Col, I would guess that your high pressure lines are probably not the problem. In order I would do the following.....(noting that others are far better qualified to advise than me):
Sort the dead battery and failed alternator.
Get the codes checked for any non-fuel faults.
Pull the tank and clean it.
Clean the filter in the fuel pump and replace it if required.
Replace the fuel filter and bleed valve then flush the low pressure lines.
Reassemble, refuel, add some fungus inhibitor and fire it up.........fingers crossed. ;)

If that does not work then I would look at the high pressure side and the FPR.

the td5 has electronic injectors and won't fire if the voltage drops under 10.5 during cranking. A good battery should be the first thing to be tried really, as a weak one will drop too much cranking the engine even if fully charged

You sure someone has not stuck toilet paper down your filler pipe!
Either way you need to totally remove pump module and check the filter mesh screens.

Col, if you have gone to all the trouble of cleaning out the system, why would you risk contaminating it again by trying to run it on the crap fuel you took out? I would ditch it and put in fresh fuel.
