Looking to rewire a large part of a 1989 Defender 110 I bought recently as a project. the previous owner didn't really know what they were doing when it came to wiring and subsequently, it's quite frankly dangerous in parts.
looking at it, I'm just wondering if there's a common upgrade kit for anyone rewiring an early defender as I'm toying with the idea of modernising the fuse box as this one is buggered anyhow, and starting from scratch. before I do, I figured I'd ask incase there's a kit anyone can recommend which would save some time. No problem if not.

I used to do a bit of deep wading at times, got paranoid about water getting into the fuses ( got damn close a couple of times) so decided to make my own center consul and extend the wiring up to 3 new fuse holders I got from Vehicle Wiring Products. You just need to do things slowly and methodically and WRITE IT ALL DOWN FOR WHEN YOU FORGET.

Joining wires would be better done with solder and heatshrink, but I did the majority of mine before I knew that !!
You can buy crimp joints these days that have solder and heatshrink within the connector.
 
If you need mostly standard wiring, autosparks are actually quite reasonable once you've added up the costs of the wire, connectors and time involved. You can always change out the fusebox and make any other minor changes before fitting it to the car which would be easier.

I cut out the original fusebox bracket to take 3 8-way fuse holders, which covers the original circuits and gives some room for expansion. Things like the trailer socket, central locking and radio went on some of the extra spaces. But if you're adding a lot of circuits it's worth adding a secondary box in the battery compartment where there's more room.
 
As all above - Autosparks if standard wiring, or close to it.... and still Autosparks with moderate modifications / addition "sub" looms ..... wiring a vehicle from scratch is going to be very very tedious indeed.....

Also, from what I have read, Autosparks will customise looms for folk - no idea of the cost, but with proper prep, this could work pretty well.....
