Defender 110 Pickup to Station Wagon

Hello to all Landy Guru's.

Used to drive a Jeep Wrangler in the middle east and that is where the adventure bug bit me. Though my buddies call it mid life crisis, I say what the hell

I have a very good chance of picking up a brand new Defender 110 pickup Single cab, at a very good price.

Since I need to wear a tie to work every day and also plan to use it as the primary transport, I am toying with the idea of tub conversion to a station wagon.

The price of the Single Cab pickup is half of that of the Station wagon and is available immediately, whereas the waiting period for the station wagon is 3 months.

Any Idea's folks.?

It's not as simple as adding a roof and seats

The van is missing a rear crossmember the seatbelt mounts to so you'd need toput that in plus it'd be very expensive for the seats as you're not going to want to put 20 year old ones in it

I'd think you'd be getting close to new price to do it properly

Can be done, but you'd be looking at a different rear tub plus roof, side panels, rear door, side doors, B/C pillar assemblies, 2nd row floor, seatbox, kick panel, mid body crossmember (as above), seats, seatbelts and mounts, carpets, trim....

It's not a simple conversion, to be honest if you want a SW then buy a SW. I doubt you'd save any money converting a pickup, plus there's the possible issue of taxation depending on the vehicle's age (ie. making a commercial vehicle into a passenger car). Not worth the hassle

Could always buy a second hand SW, that way you get it sooner and won't loose a fair chunk of cash on the depreciation.

thanks guys .. but the Defender is available (New) to retail customer only since 2011. Else one has to look for a 20 year old Government Scrap and rebuild it.

Can we assume you're not located in the U.K. then? If so you really will struggle to do a pick up to SW conversion.
All the suppliers/dealers/breakers/shows/sodbury sort-outs, we benefit from over here, would make the job possible. But over seas? Impossible I'd say on a new vehicle.
