defender 110 conversion to double cab ???

Hi.
this is my first post on here ( ive just joined)
i have a k plate 110 defender 200 tdi which i have just recently brought off ebay,what i want to do is convert it to a double cab,i have looked on here and seen that it can be done,
i know the parts i need are

1) rear window section from a pick up
2) curved roof end piece
3) rear bulkhead out of a tub
4) million rivets
5) sealant

the thing im unsure of is the rear bulkhead does it have to be from a pickup or can it be from a 90 hard top ?? also how is it attached ?? im guessing its riveted on or is it welded..
if ive missed anything i will need please let me know

im gona convert it cus it used to be a recovery vehicle,and its had a small conversion done on it before, as its got no rear windows and no rear interior what so ever..its a crackin bit of kit as its all been uprated..if i can work out how to add pics i will...

Just finished the conversion... the pics at the top are what it was like when i brought it off ebay,took me 4 days to convert it to a double cab,spending 2 hours after work evey day on me own
(couldnt spend any longer gets too sodding dark)

now need the canopy and frame for the back...
also now need to decide what colour to paint the thing was thinking of keeping it white but it needs paint anyway (did have hazard stripes down sides like on the back and when they were removed it took the paint off with it) so may aswell change that too,
dont know wether to have a proper spray paint job,or i have seen people get good paint jobs hand painting them ???
its pritty straight no major dents and no damage so would hand painting it ruin it,
any ideas on a decent colour or comments on hand painting the thing would be welcome........cheers

naaa.........i never used the shed on the back anyway,i think the double cabs look alot nicer than the station wagons..
also forgot to add it now goes like stink probably cus of all the weight thats been taken off........

i rekon yuv med a rate nice job ther duk,id a don the same if it wa mine.yuv got the best a both worlds now,if ya need it secure all ya need do is put a ifor top on as n wen ya need it.

Ive had a few private questions on how to do the conversion so ill post it here........
You will need a pickup defender rear cab section the bit with the windows in,and the rear bulkhead out of a pickups tub,these are riveted and spot welded in and are a real pain in the arse to get out.you will also need the double cab roof but these are very expensive even second hand one went off on ebay a few weeks ago and fetched £500.so i got the rear curved roof section from north offroad which lets you use your own roof,roof lineing,you will also need loads of long rivets and a few tubes of silicone.

You start buy removeing the roof drill out the front rivets and peel back the roof skin leaving the front section of roof in place its glued down so cut through this,then completely remove the rear roof section.then remove both sides,cut the rear door down so that it is level with the back of the land rover or get a pickup rear door.if you cut the rear door you will have to plate across the top to cover the hole.

It will now start to take the shape of a pick up.....

Put the rear bulkhead in place you will have to remove the edges of the sides by cutting through the weld and drilling out the rivets,replace these useing the pick up ones,then put the rear cab section in place you will now be able to possition the rear bulkhead ware it needs to be rivet this in place and make some brackets to hold it in place on the inside the if you have the north off road roof kit fit the curved roof section in place you can now work out what size roof section you need to cut out of your old roof that you took of at the start cut this out put in place seal and rivet down..
thats the main parts of the conversion you will of course have to remove bits of trim,seat belts, roof lineing etc along the way but you can put all this back at the end..
Its not a massive job just take your time and try to get a second pair of hands to help you.i did the conversion on my own and removeing the roof and heavy items on you own can be a little tricky.
You will no doubt have loads of cut, bashed fingers at the end but if you have set you mind on doing it its well worth it in the end...

Im sure people will do things different and no doubt say so here,but this way worked for me..and im happy with the result,so if you are considering doing this conversion i hope this helps............

I'm going to convert my 200TDi 2 door SW to a pickup and hope I dont come across to many problems. My 2 door has the rear bulkhead already fixed to the vehicle, so I would only need the pickup roof top, the rear panel and rear tailgate. Does anybody knows how sells the complete cabin?

Whats the paint code for this - love it. Not Bonatti grey?

you dont necessarily need a LR bulkhead, you can make your own... you will also need a capping for the bulkhead.

the alu capping i made up in the image below was later replaced with a steel one...
