Does anyone know the proper position for the Range Rover decal on the rear of a classic? I have seen several photos but they are either high or low. Is there a correct distance from the bottom edge to the bottom of the lettering?

I've an original condition '87 Vogue so I'll have a measure up today & post my findings this afternoon/evening. I don't know how original you want the RR but I assume you know that different model years (& paint colours) used alternative styles of decal.

The bottom edge of the decal is 38 to 40mm (difficult to measure accurately from a radius edge) above the fold, with the gap between the words Range & Rover centred under the top tailgate release button. Two previous owners/low mileage so I'd be supprised if mine wasn't original.

Thanks, both of you. Sounds like about 45 mm on the cards then! This one's a 1971 two door. Managed to get a genuine decal off ebay. It's definitely the older classic lettering and is pre spaced on a transparent front sheet. Interestingly the words Range and Rover, even though the same number of letters, are slightly different lengths. Think I'll keep the gap in the middle though.

I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't a so called factory gap on the older ones - just whatever looked good in the eye of the fitter on the assembly line (like Mini's decals tended to be).

Again I query your wishes for originality (?) but the RR name on (I believe) pre '79 models comprised of individual letters fitted through the bonnet/tailgate with fasteners. Perhaps I'm being too much of an anorack!

Come to think of it I remember cars with the individual letters. Made great rust holes they did too. Over the past 39 years this RR has definitely had a new tailgate (I fitted it) and who knows even a bonnet but as long as the car is complete, runs, looks good and passes the MOTs then we are happy. I have fitted the stick on ones, bonnet equidistant between top and bottom edge and tailgate about 45 ish from the bottom edge all the way along. I did an anorak thing actually, measured the gaps on my P38 and upsized them in proportion to the size of the space on the classic. Just back in from the first show of the year up here and no-one said they were wrong, so all happy. Thanks for replies anyway.
