Hi Guys i have been looking at some videos on youtube and debating on painting my discovery with a roller i know it sound scruffy but ive seen some really good finishes on youtube and i would like to do it my self i have never sprayed a car before so not much can really go wrong with a roller has any one on here done this before i was planning on painting it with rustoleum red paint then getting black chequer plating all around so if it is done properly could look really good let me know what you all think if i go ahead with it i will post some picks as i have striped the car and took pictures all the way through the transformation so should be a good little read when done

I did my last one. I could of got a really good finish but got bored of rubbing it down. Looked tidy enough though.

Just lighty rub it down and go for it. I rollered the paint on then lightly went over it with a brush then rubbed it all down with an electric buffer and some g3 compound.

For what it's worth my advice would be "go military" if considering a roller paint job.
An old 4wd wears a military paint job well in my opinion!
Shiny red? Would advise to save the cash and get someone to spray it, or it will always look like you couldn't afford the paint job you actually wanted.
I've painted a few with military paint now and they have always turned out well.
I attach pics of my last 3 projects - an 87 LR90 done in matt sand, an 88LR90 done in satin olive drab, and a Fourtrak that I did earlier this year finished in a "realtree" inspired camouflage finish.
The camo finish I was really pleased with - I drove up the Scottish Highlands in the summer, and whilst parked up on the campsite in Fort William it felt like more people were taking photos of my truck than Ben Nevis!!
I have just bought a 95 Disco as my next project and think I'll be staying with the camo theme on this one - going for a snakeskin camo this time - watch this space!!
One piece of practical advice if you decide to have a go, when you order your paint get the supplier to also send you a couple of aerosols of the same colour at the same time.
Use the spray cans to paint around panel joints/door shuts/vents and grilles etc, much easier than trying to get brush or roller into these difficult areas and you will get a great finish.
