dead landy! turbo? intercooler pipes?

defender 90 with 200tdi disco conversion.

was on the m/way and the landy just got slower and slower and slower, lots of black smoke. so pulled over.

doh! so called RAC. when you rev it all the intercooler pipes contract and were blocking the air flow.

took top tube off and ran it home with air getting sucked straight into manifold no worries. got home. took it all apart tonight and all (and i mean all) of the intercooler pipes have oil in them. poured oil out of the intercooler, poured it out of the pipes. turbo air side has a load in too.

so.

is this a knackered turbo or could this have happened because i ran it without the top pipe connected and cleaning it will sort it? i guess it was the oil restricting the air flow?

just been outside and wiggled the blades in the turbo and it is rather wobbly! so i guess that means new turbo? how much should i expect to pay for one s/h? cheers

well you lot are no good! a whole hour at 22.30 and no one responded! anyway got a s/h one for £60 posted which i think is fair. replacing all the fudged together intercooler pipes too with proper silicone and aluminium tubing so hopefully it will be ok from now on.
