Well after a lot of pulling and tugging and dis-mantling, I managed to remove tha cat pipe from my 97 300 auto and fitted a straight through pipe. Can I ask anyone else that has done this, did you have to remove the alternator and the water hose from the thermostat housing ? This seemed to be the only way to get the new pipe in.

Can now report she is running well and seems to pull better and I can now hear the turbo spinning up, is this normal? Next on the agenda is an auxillary intercooler - I have a plan and will post pictures as soon as I can get my hands on a P38 intercooler at the right price.

You can get the pipe from any Land Rover dealer / specialist or even your local car parts dealer. The part No. is ESR2297 and I do believe its from a Defender not Discovery. Is it a DIY Job ? see my above post. I ended up removing my alternator and hose from the thermostat in order to let the replacement pipe go far enough forward to get the back end of the pipe over the gearbox carrier. Bit of a struggle but not to bad. Tip - spray all the nuts with WD several times over a week or so before starting the job and make sure you have some long extensions for your ratchet.
