Hi all were can i find the date code on an alloy wheel?
does one of the numbers tell you the year of the car its off?

Thanks

Hi Lee - on the back of the wheel on one of the spokes / arms you will find a little circle about the size of a 5p coin.

In the middle of the circle is a 2 digit number - the year of manufacture.
Around the edge are 12 segments with one of them marked differently from th others - a double dot perhaps, but not always, - this the month. eg if the segment at the bottom is marked it's June - if the top one then it's December.

There is no way of knowing what year of vehicle the wheel is for using the date of manufacture.

You can only be sure that it can't be for any later vehicle. A wheel marked 99 or 02 cant be for a 2006 model. A wheel marked 04 or 05 could have been intended as a spare part for a 1999 Freelander.

The vehicle its for can only be accurately determined form the part number cast onto another spoke / arm.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Hi Bob

Thanks for the info i couldnt find anything the shape of a 5p but i found this
wheelk.jpg

Would this mean that the wheel is off an 05plate?

Just trying to work out if the wheels are gonna fit my car

cheers

Lee

OK Lee - that's the same type of info - the 10 dots means the wheel was made in October 2005.

There is no guarantee that it is for or off a 2005 model car.

Recently I bought a new wheel for my 1982 BMW from a BMW dealer - it has a date stamp July 2010 on it - so the logic that a 2005 stamped wheel means it is for a 2005 model is unsafe.

what style of wheel is it? that part number is unknown? can't remember for certain but you can tell by the 'dimples' or 'holes' just around the wheel centre, something to do with the assistor used at the factory for fitting the wheels....
