no dodgy MOT its a new MOT requirement not being inforce long

Gentlemen,

By way of an update for you, I managed to locate (after much searching). The MOT test manual issued by VOSA.

The date was Jan 1st 2012 and it clearly states that the tester checks that the lamp:

1. Is present
2. Illuminates
3. Does not indicate a fault.

So, clearly the car did not pass the MOT in JULY, as per the standards released in January of the same year.

I am now seeking advice before I approach the garage/VOSA/Trading standards etc etc etc.

I have no issue with the car requiring work due to age etc (I have just last week spent the best part of £500 on new brake pipes being fitted) but I do get more than slightly P&@553d off when I discover I was sold the vehicle with the fault and a new MOT that should have discover the fault.....!!!

Not happy in the slightest

hmmm thats a new one for me my last tdci went and passed with a bulb out no complaints as i sold the car before this years test was due lol

I have attached the single page from the MOT test Booklet issued by the VOSA for you all to see.

The other strange thing is, I just had a friend connect his computer to my car to see what fault codes are present and it found nothing? There are no fault codes at all.

Tis now makes me question why the LEDs would have been removed n the first place?

theres a good chance the machine didnt connect to the ABS system just the engine which is why there was no fault codes...

i have a 2000 model and no snap on equipment at garages talk to my abs and i have just invested in a hawkeye diagnostic tool so i can get to the bottom of my own abs/tc/hdc fault

Just move on.
Being realistic - nobody, including VOSA, will be interested in doing anything about this. The test was passed 9 months ago, anything could have happened since then and you have had the instruments apart yourself.
Nothing is provable one way or another, so nothing will be done.

on a similar vein, did a site takeover this week and found that someone had "coloured in" the fault LEDS on the fire alarm panel pcb with a black marker pen...to cover up the fact it had been installed wrong.

Reluctantly I have to agree with you.

I think I knew all along I could achieve nothing from pursuing this, well, other an high blood pressure that is.

Now I just need to wait for my replacement cluster to arrive and then see what illuminates. I may have to seek a friendly garage to try and ID the fault that may be lurking.

So, for anyone that is interested, I thought I would continue the thread.

Today my new dashboard cluster arrived (displaying 100,000 more miles than, previous but will look at this another day) and I have fitted.

The good news is that my lights are now working.

The bad news is, as suspected, I have the "Three Amigos".

To Be Continued.....

Ok, so I have today taken the car to a local garage who connected thief computer and we went for a drive.

We could see from this that the four wheel sensors appear to be fine. All read zero at the standstill and then all four increase with speed and read the same.

This only other fault they foud was a code:

C1DC0

Sadly the computer just gave the code and said to refer to the handbook ( which the garage Did not have )

So now it is a trip to the dealer to I'd the code, although, knowing the four sensors are fine then it can only be the brake switch or the main ABS module.

Hope you get it sorted soon - keeping a log on all the 3 amigo threads as mine will need doing before the next MOT. Like you, I have no lights at present....
