Hi, I've just put my 2004 freelander in for MOT and it failed on the ABS amber light not coming on. Guy suggested that in the past someone may have removed if it was coming on too much.
Sure enough when I stripped the dash down and got to the circuit board I find the LED has been removed.
checked the voltage on the LED pins and all seems good. I tried removing one of the green background LEDs to see if a swap was possible but they are so small I just couldn't do it.
I'd be very grateful if anyone can suggest a fix for this so I can get it through the re-test.

I take it that when you checked the voltage it showed 12 volts? You'd probably be best trying to find a generic amber 12 volt LED which looks as near as you can the same or similar to the others on the board. You could try eBay or a components supplier such as Maplin. Remember that LEDs are polarity sensitive, they only work the right way round.
LEDs are regarded as more robust than filament bulbs, consequently you'll find it easier to obtain the little bulbs to illuminate the clock than one to replace an indicator LED.
Your next problem is going to be finding out why a previous owner found it necessary to remove the LED, so merely replacing the LED to get the vehicle through the MoT test could just be the start of your troubles.
Good luck with it anyway.

Thanks Brian, I've been on all day trying to fit a new LED but it's so fiddly I think I have blown the board (all LEDs are now very dim !)

If I get my hands on a replacement circuit board, what would I need to do regards programming it ?

As a Disco owner, I've no idea about what would need to be done on a Freelander dashboard, sorry.
I just answered your query because I do know a bit about LEDs.
Can you confirm that your Freelander is a late FL1 or a FL2.

Just to show my knowledge is less than yours, I have no idea what FL1 or FL2 means!

It's a 2004 XEI if that means anything.

Freelander 1 or Freelander 2?
I've had a look at the electrical diagrams for the late FL1 and if it's any help, you might have blown a fuse, if it's a Freelander 1, then it might be Fuse 14 on the fuse board in the passenger compartment. It should be a 5 amp fuse.
