well am back on the road with the rangerover , new s/h engine installed and wow , i can`t believe how responsive it is compared to the old unit , she`s whisper quiet , and after doing around a 100 miles or so with it last night it performed faultlessly.
whilst i had the engine out i decided to do all the bits of jobs that you tend to put off i.e heater "o" rings ect :) so now i hope i should get a good few trouble free miles :) but then again its a rangerover aint it :) .
just one niggle though, since dropping in the new engine the lights and dash lights seem to be flickering   im sure i`ve seen a post on here about it , im just wondering if its the alternator which is the one that came with the engine and not my original one ......................there`s always summat when you own a p38 :) :) :) .
rick.

p.s
i bought the engine from a breakers who advertised on ebay thornton 4x4 breakers , and i cant praise these guys enough , very helpfull , and for once with a breakers yard ....................very honest :) . they`re located in the hills above halifax right by the side of simmonites , just in case anyone is considering buying from them .

Could be the regulator gone. I had the same problem last year. Couldn,t wait so got a new alternator from Paddocks for £100+post. Just had a new reulator fitted over here to the old one for €40 (£26) and now I have a spare. Suggest you try your old one on to see if there's a difference.
