I'm seriously considering buying a Pure Highway H640DBi as I need (OK, want) Bluetooth streaming and DAB and have the opprtunity to pick up a unit for £89 rather than the regular £130 asking price.
This would be replacing my current Alpine unit so fitting will be nice an easy, but I do have a question that I'd like an answer to if anyone can assist.
This is that I don't want to use one of the horrible windscreen stick-on aerials and would much rather use the existing inbuit window aerial on the Disco 2 by using a DABFM splitter which allows you to use your regular aerial rather than paying out for a dedicated DAB one.
From what I can gather many of these splitters are for 'passive' i.e. unpowered aerials but I gather the signal is boosted on the Disco 2.
Has anyone fitted a DAB radio to their Disco 2 and did you use the existing aerial
I've had teh Pure Highway 'external' DAB unit for many years now and just need to enjoy DAB without the hassle of setting it up and putting the magnetic aerial on the roof each trip!

I haven't installed DAB on mine, but I did look at doing it a while back.

I don't think that the existing aerial system would work well, if at all due to the tuning of the aerial amplifier in the roof.

One way I did think about was fitting a "shark fin" style DAB aerial in the hole designed for the built in GPS system on some of the high end cars. The hole is already there but has a blind grommet in it. You should see it about a foot or so forward of the rear door.

That's always assuming that you don't have the GPS system on your Disco.

It's a Disco 2. I only upgraded it from steam power in the summer so no GPS fittings!!

If you're going to swap out the head unit one of the window aerials will become redundant as ISTR two antenna connectors on the factory HU. If that's the case could you trace the unused one, bypass the amp in the roof and connect directly from the DAB aerial socket to the cable connecting to the popper on the window? If you do decide to go for something new this company has a variety of styles to choose from. http://www.dabonwheels.co.uk/DAB_car_aerials.html

Well, I picked up a Pure Highway H260DBi for £85 as a refurb from Halfords :)
It has an SMB aerial connector and as all of the 'splitter' adaptors I have found so far can only be used on passive aerals I'm going to go for one of these: Amazon product they are cheap, work and don't look as ugly as (as well as having the poor reception of the 'on-screen aeriels) and I already had one for my (much) older Pure Highway external unit and know how good they work.
I'd love to use the in-built window aerals bt I don't think it's going to happen.

As some closure to the thread I found an active ariel DAB splitter with a SMB connector on eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261647468325?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

It was a mere £10.79 and shipped from Germany.
It works fine but due to 'technical reasons' you can't have the main ariel connector plugged in at the same time as the SMB DAB connector as you won't get any DAB stations.
But as I can now get the couple of BBC stations I listen to on DAB as well as Planet Rock, BBC 6 Music and a raft of others I'm a happy bunny.
Not sure what reception will be like in the sticks but around town it works very well indeed and all without external antennas and fiddly wires to run :)
