Hi All,

I’ve had a amber parking brake issue warning light come on the dash of my D3 manual. I poped it into my local garage Friday when it came on and they were unsure what the fault was and it booked in for them to investigate further. As it and electronic parking brake I’m now stressing no it’s going to be something major and cost serious ££££££.

Has any one also had this and if so any ideas what it could be (hopefully nothing major).

Not sure if any of this is related:-

a)I had new rear disc / pads / calips fitted circa 14 days ago.

b) I believe there was an issue with one of the rear parking sensors, every time it got put in reverse it beeped on a couple constant high tone. This has now stopped.

c) Have notice when you change gear that the gear indicator on the dash is now got a lag in displaying what you gear it is in, its like it is having to think about.

sounds like the XYZ switch , if the gears aren’t being displayed correctly , diagnostics reader is the best way forward and see what codes come up

rear parking sensors, put the ign in, into reverse , out ur ear close to the rear parking sensors and u should hear them clicking , if there not check the fuse first

was the handbrake warning light there before they replaced the brakes, if not they may have not replaced the brake pad wear sensor

what year and engine is ur D3 and where about in the uk are u plse

assume you’ve had the front and rear belts done and oil pump cover replaced if it’s not the newer type

Hi gstuart,

The rear sensor noise had stopped so assumed that had corrected is self, but will have a listen and see if I can hear anything.

The parking brake fault light was not there when they did the brakes and they replaced the wear senor (was on the receipt anyway).

Belts were done at 120 k.

If I’m being honest not sure on the engine size but it’s a 2006 manual if that helps?

They did hook it upto the computer but I didn’t ask about the codes.

I’m in Suffolk

Cheers

hi matt

they might have not adjusted the rear brake parking shoes correctly and now settled down , it indeed keep a listen out for them

ur engine if it’s a diesel will be a 2.7 TDV6 , best to also ask them ref the oil pump cover, is normally an issue from 2007 but best to at least get it checked out that it’s the later reinforced one , also assume they replaced the rear belt

if ur light is still there it needs re plugging in , they shouldn’t charge u seeing they done the work and wasn’t there before u had the brakes done

also they can check why ur gears aren’t matching up to the display , that’s normally that XYZ switch

but if i may say , take it back to them and get them to sort it all out

plse let us know how u get on

Almost certainly wants adjusting then should be all good, they then want adjusting annually.

Amber warning for the park brake is usually related to Park brake module force application, there is a process using the computer SDD to place the shoes in mount mode, this should’ve been done before they removed your old disks. Doing this winds the cables out so there is no preload on them, after the disks are replace there is a specific procedure to adjust the shoes and then re latch the cables to the motor so it can automatically determine the force required to apply the shoes to the new disk... best to catch it at amber before it damages the module! they usually start chirping if not sorted, that noise is the spindle gear shearing part the motor worm and at that point it’s a new park brake module.
It all sounds like adjustment is your current issue.

The PDC is linked to the Park brake module so it will indicate a fault on that system sometime if it detects a PBM fault, this could be linked but may be a separate fault.

The gear selector fault has been know to be the XY switch that sits right on top of the gear box, most occasions when they fail or loose calibration you have no gear indication on the dash, slow indication could also be an indication of this. You can recalibrate it yourself easily on a quiet straight road.

D3’s have lots of modules working together on a coms networks and one fault with a component can effect others. Having a list of the logged DTC’s can help

Hope it helps

hi

nice to see another D3 owner, , think there nearly 6 x of us now, lol

welcome to the asylum ;):D

Hey, well I’m a discovery owner just a series 1 version... i have the pleasure of fixing them all for a living however:) love the D3 is my absolute fave model in the LR range.

that’s really handy he says, lol , had mine a year and this is my latest issue, lol

been trying to find out what the MAP readings should be at idle and at revs , using a Gap iid, but no data anywhere to be had

https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/tdv6-2-7-turbo-overboost-fault.329904/

all good fun and need to get out more as i really do enjoy working on it and still got lots to do, is my favourite landy so far and still got so much to work out

Well I can have a look for you for sure! reading your post, splitting the turbo in situ will be a resounding pain in the butt!! It’s probably just as worth taking it off and doing it! I may have a untested new one lying around in the garage at my folks house.... pretty sure I do.. it was going to go on my dads 407gt coupé, same engine! Alas he sold the car for scrap!

They were common for splitting the intercooler to intake housing pipe! Very common in fact, change 1 last week, the actuators push rods were one for sticking too...

Hi All

Thanks for the reply and apologies in delay but had a manic few days. It’s back into the garage tomorrow so i’ll Get the other half to mention about the procress for the setting the brakes in.

I’ll be intrest to see if I can re cal the xyz sensor how do you do that ?

Cheers

Best way is to put the car in low range as it
Makes it easier to get through the gears at a low speed, then all you do is go into first gear take your foot completely off the clutch and wait till 1 appears in the console, then move to the next gear progressively Maori f your way to 6 then you need to stop and go into reverse same procedure and then you should have them all, it’s important to let the gear appear first before you move on, if you don’t go into revers it won’t save the calibration so best to find a quiet road or some land To do it on.

If it is the XY switch that has gone and it won’t recalibrate they can be done with the box in, bit of a fiddle but save a lot of time!

Hi All

Success, not 100 % what it was on in the end as the other half took it but she did say the had found water ingress on one of the command boxes which was green. Which they cleaned and dried and then did some else then parking light has gone.

Ironically I use a green screen wash so i had a poke about under the bonnet tonight and manged to get under the sound proofing. To find the front drivers side had disconnected which i’ve know use a cable tie to secure. But I would like to get the whole sound damperning off at the weekend and check all of the piping is secure. Is it just a question of using a set of pilers to pull all the plastic holding studs out? If so can theese be reused or will theese need replacing?

Cheers
