D2 R380 & Def R380 - Straight Swap?

morning!

So last night I managed to pick up a brand new HD Ashcroft R380 for a steal.

However bar changing the top selector housing are they the same?

As in once I swap the the tops it should be a straight fit?

Is the Defender one not a stubby r380? So Disco one is longer.

No I’m sure the stubby is a modified r380 box(with small bell housing not disco) also change the main shaft to the correct length.

no the stubby box was originally produced when the r380 first came out,the lt77 production finished so any late 200tdi defender needing a new gear box would be fited with the stubby r380 as standard r380 is same length as disco and rrc box, with the introduction of the 300tdi more parts were made to share between disco and defender and engine was moved to fit in the same position as the disco ,hence defender and disco front props were then the same prop
only difference between disco and defender r380 is top and internal selector shaft hence the need for an adapter stub to mount defender selector quadrant on a disco box to allow defender top to be fitted
