D2 - One owner since new...

I thought this would be a bit of Christmas fun...

A long time ago I was flush for once and decided to invest a whole chunk of money in a brand new D2
Sadly I am now as poor as the next landrover owner but my investment has lead to 12 years/190k miles of very satisfying driving
(and a car worth considerably less)

As the odometer ticked over I wondered how many other people are still the proud original owners of their D2 - and how many miles they have put on it.

Then I wondered which of these two 'titles' I might hold (if any!):

"Longest owned by original owner" - my stick in the ground is 29 December 2000 (X reg)

"Furthest driven by original owner" - for me that is 190,000 miles

I'm sure someone must still own their original T reg D2 but has anyone ramped up the miles?

So, are there any contenders or do I keep the crowns?

I once had a T reg freelander that I took to 120K in about 3.5 years. I think there will be few around that take those crowns from you!!

i'll give you a title of

"best self motivated driver for managing to stay awake whilst driving the most boring disco created for 190K"

(sorry i found my td5 boring to drive)

You got me on both counts , feb 2002 , 122k . Didn't buy it new, was 6months old. Saved it from a life driving round park lane and Kensington . Silly women got it home and it didn't fit in her under ground car park ! . And yes it's not the most exciting to drive and yes bits fall off oil drips out water drips in ,and drinks like a fish .But it's always started ,tows great , and can be fixed with nothing more than a cheap halfords tool set , and of all my cars vans and bikes, it's the only one I think of as part of the family. Whitch is proberly why I swear at it so much ;-)

I didn't reckon I'd make it past 5pm I'm up to 8 hours so I'm doing better than I could have hoped

As to the drive, well D3s and D4s are too armchairy/expensive for me and they'd stopped selling D1s when I had the money burning a hole in my wallet.

And, yes, its come to be part of the family (though I know SWMBO has desires to pension it off)

Surely there's a V reg out there coming up for its second lap of the universe?

Thats some going.but whats it cost you in repairs/breakdowns.having had from new was it more reliable cos you looked after it.
arent all cars boring to drive after the first hour or so, had all sorts of cars, vans 4x4`s but none that i found exciting to drive.

What has it cost me? Erm, lots - but I try to ignore that

She is still turning in around 27mpg which isn't too bad for her size/age.

But a recent clutch replacement means she drives really smoothly.

She drops an oil of some sort on the drive and still drinks too much coolant

If only I could get the sunroof leak to top up the coolant...

Not a landrover but I have a 60 plate passat with 126k on the clock. I also have a D2 which is nice but my favourite is the 300 tdi it's lovely to drive

I see there is another crown - furthest travelled in shortest time from new - but I cannot think of a way of measuring that and, anyway, I'm not a contender

I can only imagine the long term/distance D2 owners are busy preparing for Christmas.

I'll give it time before I buy myself a 'longest owned and furthest driven D2' bumper sticker

The 2 we have in the workshop have beef owned by the same owners all there lives and both are utterly ****ed ! Ill check the miles though

The hours I've spent on them is horrendous, just all the standard d2 problems coming up ones ignition switch stuck on, constantly running the starter and randomly startling whenever it wanted, and the other has no immobiliser and starts off of a Lucas key, typical farmers

used to have them coming in for paint they ask what paint shall i use then after you gave them advice they would walk round shop and buy contract matt cheapest biggest tubs we do. Well if it peels off in a month i get another tub

I will claim the crown! I bought mine in May 2000 (W reg) and I have done 208,000 miles. It returns between 33 and 34 mpg consistently. Yes, It has cost me a lot to keep her well maintained but so what I LOVE IT TO BITS. I am just about to get it re-chassised due to rear end 'lacework'.

Darn it! I knew it was too good to last

33mpg? Hmm, is this a wind-up? Or does it just leak that much fuel when you coast down the hill from home to the shops and towed home by the AA?

You may also have the furthest driven D2 - Another jewel in your crown!

In a pre-teen tantrum at being knocked off the pedestal my D2 has decided to throw a wobbly and break its fuel gauge - no doubt due to the dash board removal/replacement when the heater matrix and pipes were replaced!

Sigh - Don't forget to tell me if you sell her

D2 - One owner since new...
