D1 300- CB mounting options

Been pondering where to mount mine, it wont fit in the map storage pocket overhead and im a little reluctant to start drilling visible holes in the centre console....

Only option I have come up with that is remotely sensible is to mount it on the top of the dash above where the stereo would go which I have worked out I could do it quite easily but leaves me a problem when it comes to getting the aerial through the dash

What have you done with yours, photos would be appreciated

Love the look of that, nice and neat....however I have a sunroof that works and dont leak *touch wood* so would like to be able to use the sunroof winder mech....only other way of doing it off the top of my head is either buy the £78 Raptor pod or £30 odd MudUK one for a Defender and mod it like it shows on their site.

Cut a CB sized hole in the overhead map storage and fix into the recess.

It was very easy to wire in as i used the permanent live for the interior light and also used the earth on the light. The aerial is on the drivers side rear quarter just behind the alpine light glass. So just ran the coax cable under the roof lining to the map pocket and connected it to the swr meter and then to the rig.

I am using a "modulator" aerial and getting a swr of 1.2

I put mine in the centre of the dash above the radio

I run the 12v power straight from the radio supply below and the ariel runs along the back of the dash tight to the windscreen and down behind the door piller trim panels

Thats the way i'm looking at doing it although mine will be more to the right as I have a slide out TV screen that would cover the CB if mounted centrally. When I come to do it I will get a replacement rubber inlay for the dash top and cut 2 slots in it for the CB mount to poke through, also will have another vent surround that I can chop for the wiring to pass through.

I removed the rubber inlay and bolted the CB mount through the dash and drilled a hole for the 12v supply from the radio. The radio fits back just right as the bolts go upwards with nuts on top of the bracket. Yes i did bolt it on the other way round and the radio would not go back in :doh:

If i ever remove the CB I will just fit the rubber inlay back and the holes will be covered.

My stereo is a PITA to fit anyway as it has a massive wiring loom behind it for my Bluetooth hideaway box, front/rear/sub outputs, iPhone/iPod connectivity etc

Wonder if I can double side it with a pair of small screws just to help hold it in place?

You could use heavy duty velcro and then some small screws, don't think it will move then!

Good plan

Hopefully Santa will bring me a Raptor console for xmas!

Want to add a boost guage and volt meter eventually as well as extra switches etc but hate the idea of drilling holes everywhere for bits....drilling into my centre console for my US spec cupholders was bad enough!
