Hi There

Over last few days my 52 plate 4.0 V8 Disco II has intermittently cut out and then wont start, try 20 times over half hour and then it starts and may run fine for a while then die again.

My wife and kids have been stranded several times yesterday, I thought It was the fuel pump but today I have checked the power to the pump when it cuts out and there is no power.....

However if I run power to the pump, it still doesn't start in this mode.

If on the turn of the key there is suddenly power to the pump it will start obviously.

I thought oh that's fine Ill just run an ign live direct to the pump but that doesn't work as although the pump is buzzing , it wont start.

PLEASE Help its doing my brain in !!

Thanks
Warren

Not sure on these but on a lot of petrol engines crank sensors cause similar symptoms.

No idea on the V8 sorry - my version was a 3.5 litre installed in my Rover SD1 3500 SE. No fuel injection just a pair of SU carbs!

Only have a little knowledge on the TD5 lump.

swap relays R9(main) with R8(heated screen) to rule this out(engine bay fusebox)...then, if no joy plug in a tester maybe there's a fault code logged which will point you in the right direction, being a V8 you might be lucky that any OBD code reader will work on the engine management so nanocom or similar may not be a must...then come back with the P code you've found

Ok so I think it maybe a faulty crank sensor. However.....

On the top of the engine there are 2 air pipes coming from the plenum/throttle body to a solenoid looking item with a plug on the back.

This is buzzing really loudly and on several occasions if it went quiet and didn't buzz it started.

Also I unplugged it at one point and it started.

could be coincidence. ?

Thanks
