Hi guys, bit of help needed.

I am a newbie LR owner and heave the dreaded 19J turbo diesel 1989.

My start up procedure is as follows:

1 Turn to position 2 for plugs to warm up for 30 seconds.
2 Turn to opsition 3 and engine fires no problem but will cur out if key is released. Therefore put fut on gas a bit and keep in position 2 until revs pick up (usually 1-2 mins)
3 Release ignition key back to position 1, engine should idle. If it cuts out, repeat 1 and 2.

Once it is running it is fine, no problem.

I know this is not standard starting procedure, but it is the only one that works. Except this morning it didn't and I repeated 1 and 2 above 5 or 6 tmies and eventually the battery lost charge.

Is this a fuel pump issue?

Thanks for any help.

check the operation of solenoid ie 12v at solenoid wire in all key positions ignition ,glow plug and crank ,could be a dodgy ignition switch (switch can be removed and replaced from back of steering lock )
