hey guys do eny of yous no a company that make pistons building and engine for ma iii 3 and wondering if you boys can recamend eny 1?

ta boys

am thinkin of buildin an engine and goin throw things a might need and wondering if custem pistons where vsable

ma idea is a standard 2 1/4 petrol block bored out with thes carbs (ma m8 its a carb man on eny engine) up rated cam and stage 2 head with biger valves and stronger valve springs 4 branch and custem exost

but only if the block can take it and pistons arent an op so dont think all bore it out

yer gona rebore one of these?

why bother, ther int that much meat on them any hows,

yer on about a landrover right, not F1 ?

Save your money visit turner engineering and get the experts to sort you out with a stage 2 head and decent exhaust manifold. Jai

i but thats the easy and boring way **** that ad hav more fun doin it ma sell

What happened to that one that it has been sleeved?

CharlesY

 dunno yet mate, thats just come out of my series 2 a, last week, its still under investigation,

tis a reme workshop rebuild, well im pretty sure it is from the stamping and plates.

so are they not usualy sleeved ?? i just thort it was as an alternitive wear surface other than the block? a harder bore so to say ??

Sure, who can say WHY they did it?

If it's a good job you end up with a good steel bore, and probably standard size pistons, BUT .... take great care about pistons and ring sizes just in case they are an oversize, AND seeing as REME were involved, check EACH PISTON and EACH BORE! There's always a slim chance of a mis-match, and that they are not all the same size.

Pain ..

if you want more power supercharge or turbocharge it, you can get away with 5-8 psi of boost on standard internals on most engines, this should see you to the sharp end of 30hp increase, if it was me i would use the turbo off of a renault 5 gt turbo with the matching carb, even though this is from a much smaller engine it can most likely flow more air than a standard landy carb due to the r5 being a higher revving engine

the other option is transplants

if you want to stick with petrol power the period options are:

rover V8 (yawn done to death)

daimler 250 V8 (as fitted to the mk2 250 saloon and the dart)

and an oddball one for you

the triumph stag V8 (pile of **** un-reliable and prone to cooking heads due to poor design)

modern engines to consider

rovers 'tomcat' 'T series' 2.0 turbo (from the 220 turbo 420 turbo 620 turbo and 820 turbo) (i have seen one of these fitted to an 88")

fords zetec 2.0 (mondeo is the strongest contender as standard cranks can take 700bhp)

fords 5.0 V8

chevy LS1 V8 beast of an engine, has been retro-fitted to loads of things from e30 bmws to mazda RX7s

mazda's ****le rotary from an rx7, 1300cc(ish depending on who's calculation you use) 200+hp

haha, stag v8, yer havin a laugh, not the way a landrover would use it , over heat within ten miles, spose would be good fer cookin on while yer broken down tho !

me mate drives one, swears by it, then again he dunt do anything to it,
ere yers ever tried to gerra alternator off one? ffs, yer end up with a million bits off before yer even close to it !

ACR will bore a 2.5 out to 2.8. Why the 2.5....well it is a 5 bearing crank and they have stronger blocks.

How about this for a left field idea......way back in the late 80s when everyone was trying to squeeze what they could out of a 2.25 under the ARC rules there were a few that were stripped down and properly balanced.

Think about that amount of reciprocating mass in the average 2.25 LR engine, better off making that run smoother and so lose less power to the inertia and momentum of the internal components.

Either way your are well out on the end of the deminishing return curve with this idea. The T-Series 2.0 engine is a much better option. Go and get an old MPi Disco off ebay and use that engine. The Disco will be cheap as chips and you can sell off the rest.
